Campaign for Sizewell C
For the UK to reach net zero emissions by 2050 and achieve a secure energy future, it is imperative that Sizewell C receives a final investment decision from the government.
Five of the UK's six gigawatts (GW) of operational nuclear power will be retired within the next five years. While Hinkley Point C will provide 3.2 GW of new capacity, the construction of Sizewell C would add a further 3.2 GW, helping to meet the UK's long-term energy needs.
Without Sizewell C, the UK will miss out on the benefits of new nuclear power. These benefits, in addition to promoting clean and secure energy, include the creation of highly paid, highly skilled jobs across the country, supporting the UK’s nuclear supply chain. If Sizewell C moves forward, over 70% of the £14 billion construction value will be spent within the UK.
TUSNE is currently engaging with parliamentarians to urge the government to provide certainty for the Sizewell C project ahead of the upcoming final investment decision. Following the construction of Sizewell C, the UK will be able to progress towards establishing a new nuclear fleet, delivering widespread benefits for both workers and consumers.
